what is bio remediation?
Bioremediation is the use of microorganisms to degrade pollutants in soil or bodies of water. These can either be naturally located in the polluted area and genetically altered or they can be artificially placed in the environment and genetically altered .
how does it work?
When applied to the water, the microorganisms consume the pollutants. They then produce enzymes inside of themselves to break down these pollutants. . They use this as food and energy. They then release the waste as non-toxic by-products like water and carbon dioxide.
